My mom had already been here for a week and baby didn't seem to want to come out on his own. So we decided we would induce since we were given the option. The morning of, I set my alarm to wake up and call the hospital at the time that was designated to me. I called and they said they were too busy and to call back at 11 am. So I did. Same story. This time I was told they would call me when they were ready for me. So I waited, I walked, I curbwalked, and I walked some more trying to maybe get it started on my own. Nothing. The whole day seemed to slowly tick by and I was loosing patience so I called the hospital again and was finally given the time of 7 pm.
Finally! Excitement set in! Nerves set in! We're having a baby!
The drive to the hospital was full of emotions. We made it to the hospital and after some short paperwork we were set up in our room. I was nervous about the pitocin because I've heard it makes labor much more painful, but I felt like I was handling the labor pains much better than I did with my first. I was excited to see how long I would last before asking for the epidural that I was planning on. Time passed and they occasionally upped the pitocin, once I hit a certain number, though, baby didn't like it anymore and his heart rate went down. The nurses rushed in and had me change positions to see if it would help, but it didn't. They gave me a drug to stop labor so that baby could rest. They also gave me an epidural because they said if his heart rate dropped again they would go into a C section. So we played the waiting game again. At this point it was getting to be pretty late at night, I didn't really realize it though because of all the excitement and nerves.
Eventually they started me on pitocin again and slowly upped it. They said baby's happy number was 7, haha. Labor progressed swimmingly and it was time to push. Baby's heart rate dropped again and the doctor was in a rush to get him out so he gave me an episiotomy so David could come out as soon as possible. I was a bit disappointed by that because I felt like I could do it without the cut, but obviously I wanted baby out fast if that's what the doctor thought was best. I pushed for probably 2 minutes and out came baby. I remember thinking, "Already?" I couldn't believe he was out so fast, I pushed for half an hour with my first.
He was beautiful and a happy little boy. It was a stressful delivery, but everything worked out well in the end.
